That's giving him his own back! (Ditto the Athena reference-- does he strike her as wise, or just as unknowable?)

This oh-so-casual mention of a wife or *someone* out there? She certainly seems to think it's perfectly reasonable to expect him to have relationships, although I think he's already made it clear that he thinks no one would want one with him :)

I bet he's very tempted to disappear right now.

*facepalm* Beauty, you are many things, but your diplomacy skills seem rather spotty.

Is he hesitating because he doesn't want to answer or because the currents of his contract are constraining him?

I like Beauty's good-natured teasing here, which softens the questions she's asking about the Beast's family. I'm pretty sure at this point that his family is long dead, considering it may have been centuries since he was transformed. The Beast is reluctant to answer her, perhaps because it is too personal or painful for him, or perhaps because there is no easy answer or because he is not allowed to tell her. I do find it interesting that Beauty asks him about having a wife and that he is presumably replying that he never married (though had lovers, most certainly). I'm sure you'll think that's a good thing to know down the road, Beauty.
