I see our stand-in father figure studied at the Rampaging Guilt Complex school of character development.

Argh, who IS that witch? How did someone so easily guilted over saving puppies get cursed? And he believes it's his fault, but can we trust his judgement on that?

Forgive me if my history is off here... but I have a question... Why would someone who is working/hanging out in the barns EVER be invited to court?

Well, I'd figure at many times and places it'd be standard for the nobility (of both sexes) to be decent riders, and hunting was a common pastime as well. For that, you often need dogs and horses. So I THINK that's what's going on here -- he's a member of the nobility/royalty, who's hanging out with, oh, one of the royal huntsmen or something.

(Gosh, I probably phrased that in a really jerkish know-it-all way. Sorry. >_> )

Oh! It didn't come off that way at all! I am just convinced that MsMegan is a trickster and the beardy guy is trying to pass off our boy there as a royal/noble when perhaps he may not be.

But, your explanation makes much more sense! :)

I'm not saying you're RIGHT....but I'm not saying you're WRONG either...

I guess I am a bit of a trickster, aren't I?

The voice of the older gentleman is so distinct in this dialogue; I can practically hear him speaking those words. So good!

Oh Beast, I am laughing from the future about you going, "Animals don't do well with me" considering what you get turned into. Also this dialogue seems to indicate that the lady in the Beast's life is...not fond of and possibly abusive towards animals...which is terrible and gross and I can see why things went so poorly between the Beast and her. It's one of those little hints to add to the pile of hints towards "this relationship was seriously twisted and messed up and probably ended in murder."

And wow, this whole discussion about the puppy living or dying on the Beast's watch and him saying, "It's not really a choice if you put it like that," is good foreshadowing to the whole contract situation - notably Beauty's, since her mother's contract was probably what saved her life when she was younger. Aaaaand, as another note, I bet the court did eat our Beast alive. He's just so soft here, so I'm curious as to how and why someone like him was cursed. He's talked about it somewhat, but hasn't explicitly gone into detail about what drove him to shed blood at the fountain.

You cannot say he was cursed. He made a contract maybe out of guilt but did not know all the consequences though. Maybe he did something that might made him feel of himself as a Monster so his inside Feeling made the form he ended as.
