So he wants protoBeast to be ready for courtly life by...not learning about politics and etiquette?

You are the worst at advice, Bowlcut McStablehand.

He wants protoBeast to get out of his severely depressed head and not do anything stupid like cut out his own heart... I think he realizes that he doesn't care about his own life, but some other life might be worth living for, at least a few more weeks.

has anyone else wondered if this "play" will follow Shakespeare's 4 act rule?

So the Beast, at this point in his past, was buried in his books and probably depressed, if the melancholy comment is an indication. It was to the point where he was letting important responsibilities, like learning about court life, slide. So his friend is recommending actually going out and being around people - and taking care of a puppy - to fix it. It's not actually a bad plan, the gambling recommendation aside; a change of environment might be just what the Beast needs. I...don't think it's going to end well, though, if the flashbacks we've seen to the girl is any indication.

That Young man reminds me of myself somehow. When you cant trust the own family, whom else to trust at all?
Same aged men and Girls would help to learn normal sozial behavior better thats for sure. If mom allows and he likes to trust anybody enough.
A dog is a perfect companion when it is about trust, to begin with.
