He's so good at deflecting. Isn't he good at deflecting? Subtleties abound.

I want to vent more snark over Beast's evasive nonanswering but dammit THAT FACE IN PANEL 1.

Acting fuzzy, distracted and confused is a remarkably convincing deflection employed by most of males, beast or not. But deflection implies that one has a game plan and knows the course...which is not typical for males.

Admittedly, the Beast has an advantage when it comes to acting "fuzzy"... ;)

What if he's not deflecting.

What if the memories just aren't there?

I mean... I get all kinds of Robin McKinley vibes whenever I read this webcomic, and one of the things she does well is show the fact that a magical contract can do a lot more than just hold someone in a form. It can also make it impossible for them to even SPEAK of their enchantment... Or recall it.

She *did* find it directly after the chess game, which had a bargain involved that might possibly have magical repercussions... Did it appear to make up for his evasive half-answers?

Oh good god, that face in panel 1. Straight to the heart, madam!

omg omg omg he gives it back to her?! That's what I found most interesting about this.

Daaaaaawn, the way his little ears go down on the first panel... So cute <3

God, he looks so heartbroken and lost in the first panel. I wonder if he ever gave it as a gift to someone else...? In any case, him not knowing where the book came from - the benevolent magic of the castle or the malevolent magic of its ruler - leaves the intention behind gifting it to Beauty very open. That the Beast returns it to Beauty is sweet, given what it must mean to him. I love how concerned Beauty is for him...though the Beast deflecting the subject to her hurt hand makes me groan. Let her help, kitty cat. She seems pretty willing.
