if my blind consumption of mainstream media has taught me anything, it's that bittersweet moments are always followed up by unspeakable tragedy.

I think it's a huge turning point how he said this. Jailors don't go "Will you stay with me?"

Also, dang, this page is powerfully drawn.

I feel like the next page is going to be the last one of the chapter. The moody shot in the first(ish) panel and the Beast's thoughts remind me of how other chapters have closed - and it feels like we've hit the end of another part of the story, and that this is a major turning point for us.

And oooooooh god. The Beast is so, so messed up in the head. He really thinks she's lying to him. I really hope he just means the part about her "not seeing anything," but I doubt it - I feel like he's applying that to almost everything she's said in this conversation. She genuinely does care for him, but he's been so hurt that he doesn't believe it and uuuuuuuuugh, no, you thick-skulled, overgrown kitty, stop projecting your feelings of self-loathing onto the woman who has outright said that she likes you and is showing you that through cuddling you!

And...well, more self-delusion(?) is probably not what the doctor would order for you, Beast (I think they would recommend some therapy), but I'm not sure you and Beauty would be "pretending" if you two were in a relationship, considering that you both obviously really care about each other.

Also, as The Doodler says, a jailor wouldn't ask her to stay with him - this is opening the door to her leaving later (which would possibly risk her life, since it's implied that her continued life is tied to the addendum to her and her mother's contract). The fact that Beauty says she'll stay with him for a little while is sweet, but also painful - because if she has the chance, she will go back to her family and they both know it. She came here by her own volition, but it was a decision made under duress, so it wasn't truly a free choice at all.

Gosh, this story is going to get even more heartbreaking as it goes on, I just know it. Break my heart why don't you, Megan?

I think what I love most about this panel is that it captured and reproduced some similiar emotions of a moment that happened 7years ago. It was when my boyfriend (now husband) was trying to comfort me over a crisis of "what am I going to do next year of work/school/ life" and in that moment he asked , " Will stay with me?"
I was hopeful and hesitant in that situation when I answered, "let's see what happens."Such a good memory that was able to relive in this page. Thank you!

"That this sweet, painful, fragile thing could be" ...what? What could it be?
