See, this is why I kept my maiden name. Paperwork just gets more and more complicated when you change things.

I wish /I/ could whistle up documents like that at work!

SERIUOSLY. That would make life so much easier. Rather than having to dig through paper files, or scour through files online.

I have a feeling this contract is gonna cost him something...

So did he remember his name all along, or was his memory jostled when Beauty "found" that book? Either possibility is certainly interesting.

I assumed he stopped using his name because he felt it didn't describe him anymore. He only sees himself as... well, a beast. He doesn't feel like he deserves a name. It would certainly follow the pattern of self loathing we've seen from his character in the whole comic.
the selkie wife 22nd Apr 3:30 AM, 2016 edit delete reply
Ooooooh. So does he refer to himself as 'Beast' because he forgot his own name (my first assumption upon reading the comic as a whole), OR because he doesn't feel human enough to take up his old name again?

That subtle shaking in the third panel, too. Poor B- Argus. :(

Argus needs a less tragic name! I thought it was either a birth name he didn't identify with, or an alias that became too appropriate. "Beast" is almost better. Our poor baby!

This contract is going to cause so much pain, and that makes me so very sad.

Why? Nothing bad's happened yet.

Whatever bad thing is going to happen is going to happen very very soon. That makes some of us panic. (I can't speak for Stitchlingbelle, but I am panicking about what Beast is going to do with the contracts.)

Why? I have the feeling that, no matter what horrible thing(s) may happen, they'll get a happy end. It'll just be one that they toughened and earned.
Sophi(e)a 24th Apr 8:47 PM, 2016 edit delete reply
Even when I expect a happy ending, I tend to get nervous/anxious about any hardships that will happen before the happy ending is reached. I care deeply about the characters, and that makes it hard to see them go through horrible things. And yes, there wouldn't be any story without conflict, but that doesn't prevent anxiousness.

It really is a shame that Beauty won't show up in Homura's outfit and say, "That won't be necessary."

It looks like he could no longer *honestly* identify himself as the Beast.
manga 25th Apr 4:36 PM, 2016 edit delete reply
I would say that "The Beast" would refer to the magical guardian dog/guy whereas Argus would refer to the man - very important to be specific about such things, in law or magic and this looks like both. Heh.

It's interesting that the Beast stumbled over his own identity in this speech. Did he remember his human name before this? Did he forget it until Beauty showed him his old notebook? Or did he stumble because the Beast is his title, rather than his individual self, and the magic cannot abide to inaccuracies and lies? I imagine the answer is a mix of these possibilities. Also, Beast, didn't you yourself say that contracts are generally bad ideas? Yet here you are, making one. (Sighs.) Not that you care what happens to you, but Beauty probably will--not that you can see that right now. (Sighs more heavily.)
