Did you know the Minotaur's name is Asterion? Greek myth trivia!

Fluffy 6th Nov 11:16 PM, 2017
Now when did that get there?
Mar-ee 6th Nov 11:29 PM, 2017
Actually no I didn't know. Love the Greek mythology references :3

Oh, hello, labyrinth! Didn't see you there! Could've sworn we were in the library!

Why does this sudden change of scenery make me think the castle has decided to make Beauty regret not giving up...?
Wolfreader 7th Nov 2:26 AM, 2017
Considering what it showed Beast a while ago? Yeah i think you're right about that...

Wherein the heroine learns the vital lesson of keeping one's inner revelations silent when surrounded by an unknown and invisible evil power.

When I hear Minotaur, I just have to think of Shin Megami Tensei IV and the Minotaur being in your way at the end of Naraku.

I'm never sure when I look up flower language stuff whether I'm on the same page, but this looks ominously likely:

Bay Leaf
I change but in death

The Doodler
There's a couple old fairy tales where the Enchanted Helpful Animal Friend winds up talking the understandably reluctant human lead into cutting their head off, revealing them alive and well and human again, might be ok? Maybe?
Kirala 9th Nov 9:42 AM, 2017
I actually suspect this is the route it will take, but that neither Beauty nor the Beast will know about the not-really-death part - so witnessing their feels will be Painful.

Also -

Bay can come from the Laurus nobilis plant or similar aromatic herbs from the family Lauraceae. When from the Laurus nobilis it is also known as bay laurel, sweet bay, true laurel, Grecian laurel, laurel tree or simply laurel.

The leaves and sprigs of this plant are used to fashion the traditional laurel wreath... a symbol of victory - particularly martial.

Apollo, Greek/Roman god of music, truth and prophecy, healing, the sun and light, plague, poetry, ect, is often associated with the laurel wreath and often depicted wearing one.

Victory in conjunction with the Labyrinth/Minotaur.

Also, they're poisonous...
Ariadne 7th Nov 1:44 PM, 2017
Hmmm... I wonder who named him Asterion, because that was a name shared by King Minos. I highly doubt the king would have approved of a monstrous bastard son sharing his name, so this almost seems like the finger to Minos by whomever named the Minotaur.
But it all ties in with Beast!
Vain.3805 8th Nov 12:53 AM, 2017
Well since Minotaur literally means Minos' Bull...
The name is actually shared by Minos' foster father, the King of Crete.
I dunno if you could call him Minos' son though... since his wife cheated on him with a bull vs Minos cheating on her with a cow...
Ariadne 11th Nov 2:21 PM, 2017
Exactly. It would be such an insult to King Minos to name the Minotaur Asterion after his stepfather.
I also think I read somewhere that Minos also had Asterion in his name somewhere, given that that was his stepfather.
I wonder if Pasiphae named him Asterion because after the spell I really don't think she loved Minos anymore (if she did at all in the first place) so it was like the only middle finger she could give Minos.

So the whispering...
...that's been Bowie all this time?

You remind me of the babe
What babe? babe with the power
What power? power of voodoo
Who do? you do
Do what? remind me of the babe
MsMegan 10th Nov 1:06 AM, 2017
Yes, and that is absolutely canon.

Ohhh, Okay, I’m spooked by that last panel.
AbigailBrooks 24th Dec 5:44 PM, 2018
And there's the maze realization! Also the hedges suddenly appearing WITHIN THE CASTLE in the last panel is INCREDIBLY UNSETTLING. You belong out on the grounds, creepy maze, not inside of a building! Stop warping space to get what you want! Mind you, you're getting Beauty to the Beast that much faster, so I'm willing to give you a grudging nod of thanks for that. I suppose if the Beast dies, you'll be down a servant, which even you don't want, so...I guess you and Beauty are allies (of a sort) in keeping the Beast alive. That's something. Still don't trust you, though.
