BirdMom met Dad, they fell in love, but she knew she could only stay with him so long.
But Beauty fell sick, so to save her, BirdMom came to the Castle to bargain for her life. She was only sucessfull because Beast was there tweaking things a bit, because Beast IS A GOOD BOY GODDAMNIT.
If I do recall, in earlier chapters when they do a flashback of Beast talking with Beauty's mom, she mentions how he is just a young man. With that I am assuming, Argus (before he became a never aging Beast of course) is in his mid to late 20's.
a good heart dealing for the castle plus a good spirit in the shadows. So what is the nature of the castle that it needs the tweaking here and there? Just a soulless machine? I know that most of the humans fail and regret their deal but what is in for the castle?
I'd just like to draw everyone's attention to the windswept movement of the grass, Beast's cape and tail. It's very atmospheric.
Also, I wonder what the tiny, unnoticeable rebellions could be... the use of ambiguous phrases in the contracts, perhaps? Was Argus secretly a lawyer versed in legalese? So many questions...
"Did you think it was the castle who chose all your lovely gowns?"--THAT IS ADORABLE. I LOVE YOU, SWAN MOM. Also, I love this detail about "a thousand tiny, unnoticeable rebellions"--the Beast would know how to do that, growing up as he did with an abusive parent--and how these two planned out Beauty's and possibly his escape clause (in his case, he probably meant it to be through death, but I doubt Swan Mom would allow that. She likes him).
The last panel is gorgeous, by the way. I love how the Beast's cloak and tail get swept up by the wind!

So far so good. Yas. Yas.
