Just dropping an author's note here to point out that we're on the "popular" page again this week! Awww yeahhhhh. Well done, everyone!

a Drop of Beauty
Ooooo, this girl is well versed in her history/mythology. Not just a pretty face but an educated one, that probably piques his curiosity...
Well done on the condensed pages =]

I'm liking Beauty more and more. (I feel like there's some significance to eyes and gazes that I'm missing, but I'm sure it'll become clear.)

What @a Drop of Beauty said!

Beauty is ironical too.

The more pages the better in general, but this little vignette is all of one piece and would suffer for being split.

Love this as a full page! Poor Beast, I'm pretty sure she didn't mean for him to hear that last bit. I like the bit about "This isn't Hades." I feel like he's trying to crack a joke to make her feel better.
cattservant 22nd Jan 9:33 AM, 2013
Beast has efficient ears, he does!
Stitchlingbelle 22nd Jan 12:31 PM, 2013
I love how she compares herself to Persephone thinking only of the trapped part, while we (and He) think inevitably of the married to a supernatural being part. Well done!

First time commenting, this is my favorite fairytale and you're doing a beautiful job with it! Thank you!

PS I totally want to cosplay Beauty. Is that wrong?
MsMegan 22nd Jan 12:43 PM, 2013
Oh gosh. Oh gosh. Oh gosh. How do I encourage this cosplay? Do I need to design a super appealing dress?
Rosebook12 22nd Jan 4:19 PM, 2013
I loved the Persephone part! It added to the Theseus reference at the beginning of this chapter.
Stitchlingbelle 22nd Jan 9:00 PM, 2013
Actually, I really like the dress she's wearing! But maybe a color picture would help... =)
MsMegan 23rd Jan 5:11 PM, 2013
for you: Beauty's stormcloud dress

(I got a bit carried away...)

Hi Megan,

I was wandering, what is your favorite comic book/webcomic?
MsMegan 24th Jan 12:30 PM, 2013
Hi Aco!

I like Castle Waiting, Courtney Crumrin, and Maison Ikkoku. Online, I've been following Gunnerkrigg Court and Erstwhile lately.

I don't think he'll have a problem getting the truth from Beauty. :)

And Beast's remark about Hades and food is interesting in the light of what some of your commenters have been saying about a fae connection: food and the eating thereof carries dangers and significance in Faerie and among the fae, as well.

Oh yay, I got the persephone and hades reference, I am cultured I am ^u^ this is wonderful and so artisitcally done, you have a real talent for this :D

Damn, my comment just got eaten. And it was a long one, too! Oh bother. Alright, I'm going to try to get down what I had. First, I have a distinct memory of wanting to review this page when I had the time, but never getting around to it. I had three notes I wanted to make on it.

The first concerns the Beast's comment on preferring truth to kindness. I daresay he's been lied to before to spare his feelings and, afterwards, ended up hurt far more than he otherwise would have been, thanks to that deception. Now I don't know how serious that situation was - considering the Beast's current state, it might have been extremely grave - but he could also be saying this now because he doesn't want Beauty's pity. Either way, I'm interested in learning more about his past.

The second note is about the food. Enchanted feasts tend to have binding properties to them. Those who eat the food offered in the fairy realm - or just a supernatural realm, since we have this reference to Hades here - must then stay there. They cannot go back to their own world. The fact that Beauty must eat here every night could relate to that, being the means by which the contract is strengthened or refreshed. That, or it could be a means of renewing Beauty's status as a guest and/or resident of the castle, and thus owed the hospitality/protection of its master. I suppose both possibilities could be at work, if it's not one or the other. That or I'm just over-thinking things.

Finally, we have this Hades and Persephone parallel, which tickles me. In ways, it kind of fits, though what it mostly reveals here is that both Beauty and the Beast as well-read. And both of them are surprised to discover that. Oh, you kindred souls, I can't wait until the walls between you two are broken down and you see what you have in common. That will be so nice.

Anyway, this is my last comment for the night. Will resume this tomorrow.

Here you hit upon my second favorite obsession: the myth of Hades and Persephone. <3

I love how she pretends he scares her, but is blushing all the way, either for fear or incomprehension as to why he perks her curiosity more than any human boy ever had. I love your Beast.
