Boy Phaff
This is nicely set up! Beautiful beginning.

ditto. I also really like the art style utilized for the comic. The contrast between black and white is very fitting for the subject matter.

A white rosebud...

Is it white? Or might it be pale peach? Yellow? Pale pink? There are some interesting implications for each of those.

Imagine how limiting it would be to be a monochromat...

And how complicated all this flower language stuff would become. :) The miscommunications!

A few genes difference a million years gone,
and we might be discussing fragrances,
or even tastes perhaps.

Can you imagine how much trouble I'd be having if wine bouquet or the flavour of strong cheeses were defining the emotional undercurrent?!

Complexity is on the ear of the ingestor,
See how bittersweet it smells!

And the black oppresiveness gives way to white at the gift of a rose. I see what you did there. And yeah, I'm sure whoever is making this deal will have eat his words at some point. While no price is too high to save that child's life (or at least that is the strong implication of this prologue), that doesn't mean there won't be angst over it.

I wonder how the father felt later about roses?

How ominous! No price is to high and yet we still don't know what it could have been, although I can imagine what it might have been, of course I have no idea at all how it will progress from here, especially when beauty is still so young and can't possibly go with the beast now.

Loving the details of the shadows and lace.
