I know this is kind of a serious moment, but I keep on having a specific little girl voice in mind for Beauty, and I just wanna squeal, "She's so cuuuute!"

But really, I love the angles in this. And in the last panel, with the lighting casting Beauty in the light and casting shadows on the village girls--that's brilliant. Beauty's unceasing confidence even in the face of adversity is wonderful. Ugh, I just love this so much.

I doubt it's the same voice, but I also see the line "leave me alone" in a specific little girl voice. Wonder why?

Wow, I love how we're getting some insight into Beauty's childhood - also I can't help but be reminded of the village scene in Panna a Netvor while looking at this. You know, how all the villagers looked like they were enjoying slaughtering and hurting all the livestock for the weddings? That's what this makes me think of (only on a far less animal-death-induced scale).

Watch out you little brats, this kid hails from the Poconos! ;)

I actually really enjoyed that bit from Panna a netvor-- the way it cut from the beast to the slaughtering was horrifically effective. That was the first, and so far only, Beast to actually frighten me.

The Disney Beast frightened me quite a bit when I was small, but then, EVERY movie frightened me quite a bit when I was small.

Yeah, I was old enough that he didn't bother me a bit. But I had a cousin who was terrified of him-- even after multiple viewings, she just wasn't old enough to get that he was the good guy.

Panna a netvor is just brilliant and gritty -- and full of metaphor. The exploration of The Dark in otherwise sanitized fairy tales is always intriguing.

Totally gung-ho about seeing the less pleasant parts of her life!

You tell 'em, Beauty! (Even if there are a lot more of them now...er....)

But I want to second sheshallnotbenameless in saying I love the angles here. And the little details like the puddles and the doves. And Beauty's I-will-not-be-daunted expressions. She's such an irrepressible little gal.

And the pettiness continues. Argh. You know, honestly, I think Beuaty is a gorgeous child - which actually probably hurts more than helps her in this situation. Good of her to stand up to them, but that puddle is RIGHT THERE...yeah, this isn't going to end well.
