My apologies for the issues with the previous update. I've fixed it now! As a few of you noted, yes, I've been having a bit of a rough go of it the last little while, and I'm doing my best not to let it affect updates. There's a lot of change going on in my life right now and it's got me a bit up-and-down. I am hoping the heavy workload will abate soon, and I'll be able to focus a bit on putting myself back together and getting ready for the BIG changes on the horizon. Thank you all for your patience and concern. I really do appreciate every kind word. <3

Gotta love the manipulation tactics she is using to make herself look like the victim here. Kind of difficult to love you, lady, when you killed your son's bird(s), broke his nose, and most likely poisoned his dog (in the near future?).
I'm cheering for you, Ms. Megan! I will also be praying that 2017 will be better for you than 2016 was.

I absolutely love the flashback scenes. There something about not being able to see someone's eyes, and at the same time being able to see a shadow of what they would look like. It's so beautiful and makes it so you have to pay more attention to the small tells in the mouth and brows. Thank you so much for this, it makes me so happy.

Ohh get over yourself Argus' mother. I kinda forget what time and year this but the king's had multiple women (his ex gf included), kinda obvious. Argus isn't to blame for what you believed.

I would almost feel sorry for her but she's just as bad or as worse as his ex lover. I'm just starting to think that the women in his life only loved him when it was convenient.

"You never loved me! You never appreciated all I've done for you!" Sounds like projection to me, she never loved her son she was just using him for social mobility. The king sounds like he has been taking his kingly privileges wherever he wanted so I doubt he ever loved 'madame' or even his poor foreign queen (not when he is making free with Argus's girlfriend). Also the line about "I was truthful, you are his son!" makes me wonder if that might also be in doubt by more than just the king. We only know what we have seen in flashbacks, but if the king had brothers I wouldn't be at all surprised if madame hadn't hedged her bets and boinked both princes. The talk of the 'shame' she suffered under, did she make no secret that she had borne the king's bastard in an attempt to force him to recognize the boy? Was she the wife of one of his nobles or leigemen and he helped himself? Or did she try and trade up? So curious!

1) Given that you seem to hate him calling you 'mother', can you blame him for not loving you?

2) You don't love him, so why should he love you?

3) Why do you think that having sex with someone immediately means that they love you? You don't need to love someone to have sex with them.

4) What suffering? From what little was shown, you seem to have lived a decently nice life; not in a corner of a street, trying to get your stomach filled through breathing.

In short, you have shit to complain about.

You take the words right out of my mouth, Cat. This woman is indeed a hypocrite.

If if she DOES get power, will she be as arrogant to the people...?

You never loved him. You killed his pets, so he wouldn't have anybody to love but you.

Serves you right, monsterwoman!
Helena 30th Dec 3:05 PM, 2016

She is a psychopath, no doubt about it. Keeping someone under constant abuse to feel powerful and saying "I'm doing this for your good"... is unfortunately very common, though I'm more used to see it happening between couples.

psychpaths are over represented in prison, psychic wards and top of society or business. Depends for they were already caught or not. People without conscience who use everybody as tools are often at the top. You can see it in corporations, they often tell their staff to stick to compliance because they themself are used not to.

HAAAAATE this woman. (Actually had to go back and capitalize that. So. Much. Hate.)

Otoh, I love this page, especially as Exasperated Dwarf said above-- the way you do the flashback scenes with the blacked out figures is amazing. You cram so much expression into so little!

I hope the new years is better for you, and thank you so much for the amazing job you've done with this story!!!

Everyone's comments are so poignant and plot driven.

Mean while today I'm only here to say I love how Argus' hair goes woosh! <3 <3 <3

This woman just keeps getting more horrible by the minute. With all the pet killing, driving away the people he loves, and victim blaming.

"L-let me make something to calm you--" Does she need to be sedated often? Because I could see that being a thing. Aaaaand there we go, part of my theory about her has been confirmed. She definitely loved the king at one point--and it sounds like he might have been her first lover, too--but the king crushed her heart. It sounds like he might have been a player even back then, given that she wanted to believe that she was "special" to him. It also sounds like the king might not have believed her about Argus being his, which probably rubbed salt into her wounds, especially if the king was her only lover up to that point. You can definitely see how she got twisted up like this, even if, again, it doesn't excuse how she has treated the people around her, especially her son.

"You've never loved me. You've never been grateful for all I've done." This is heavy verbal and emotional abuse, and I doubt it's even true. If Argus didn't love his mother, I don't think her words would hurt him nearly as much. But I think it /is/ true that he doesn't want the crown. He seems like he'd be content to settle down with someone he loves and spend his days gardening. He doesn't have political ambitions, and it was his mother's mistake to assume that their interests would align in that way.
Michael 26th Apr 12:10 AM, 2017
I agree to all but the end.
The mother had no interest in his interest ever. He is her property and asset, how dare he is not obeying his mother.
I know that Kind of woman. Not in all their glory as here but important aspects of it.
