That's right! Beauty and The Beast will begin serialization as a web-based graphic novel this september! Feel free to drop by and send in questions and comments as the countdown to launch begins...
Hey there, Megan. So I have two hours left of work, so I thought I'd start on my promised reviewing spree. Might as well start way back at the beginning, right? ;)
The teaser image looks lovely - a glimpse of things to come, presumably close to the end, when Beauty returns to the dying Beast. Now as for the webcomic trailer, I first watched it over on your blog, when I was looking for a way to contact you. I remember being pretty psyched about it; I was all for a darker, more contemplative version of the story - one which I could follow while it was in progress. And...then I completely missed the release date. Whoops.
Anyway, the animation in it is simple, but striking, and the music (one of my favorite songs), definitely adds a sense of weight to it. You have a lovely voice, incidently. We see Beauty saying goodbye to her sisters and leaving - perhaps after she returns home for a short period of time, though I can't be sure (unless your plans for how she left the first time changed). We also see the human Beast, I believe, with that dog we have yet to encounter. I'm definitely interested in how our two heroes will change over time - presumably with Beauty becoming wiser, and the Beast clawing his way out of his implied depression. The song choice also seems to point to my "the Beast made a deal with a fae" theory, instead of just getting cursed by one. But more on that later, when I'm amusing you with how my first reading of your prologue went.
This definitely got me interested in the project - and I'm glad I got to pick it up while it's in its early stages!
Oh my gosh, you are making my LIFE right now. *foaming, going into a comment coma (or maybe a "comment-tose" state? eh? eh?)*
Admittedly, a LOT has changed since pre-launch, over a year ago, both in direction and design. Our heros definitely have some growing to do. You'll have to forgive me if I try and keep a lid on details! ;)
If I were redoing the trailer, I'd probably skew it more to Beauty, since Act One is primarily her POV, and use "Here and After" rather than "Running up That Hill". I hope to have a trailer for act two, but my work-work is getting heavier these days!
I'm glad you've been enjoying all of my comments! Ohhh, and does this mean Act Two might be from the Beast's POV? Because that sounds interesting! I'm not familiar with the song you mentioned - who is the artist? And I don't know, I think the trailer covers both characters pretty equally.
I decided to start back at the beginning of this comic because I want to and it's fabulous. When I first discovered this webcomic (I think around Christmas or later?) I quickly found the trailer and credit videos and loved them. You made me a diehard fan of those songs, but more importantly, you captured the air of the story very well. And I will never get over that curtain cut in the credit video that shows the Beast's true form. Perfection right there.
In terms of the teaser itself, I love how you use black and white, as you do throughout the comic, but you subvert it in a way that makes it stand out from the rest of the comic. Would you consider making this a poster as well?
Anyway, I really adore how much like a sad puppy the Beast looks here, and Beauty's sort of trying to get on his level. But while it's adorable with that in mind, otherwise it's so tragic. The Beast, being not a puppy but really a person trapped makes him look so helpless. And if one considers that angle, Beauty looks a little helpless too, as if she's thinking, "You poor thing, but...there's nothing I can do."
Ohhh, man. You just made my night. I checked my notices on the way to bed, saw the list and "...oh my gosh. Do I have another serial commentator. I can't be THAT lucky, can I?" But apparently I can!!
I actually do have a few of these left as posters! I did a limited run when my studio had an open-house last year, and I still have some around (the quality isn't as nice as the colour posters). I think I sent one out to Abigail as a bonus for a bulk poster purchase, but if you want one, too, message me!
Alright This well made comic deserves my full attention and I won't rest until I comment on every single page because this is actually so worthwhile and beautiful, thank you in advance for making it :D also the picture is beautiful it's kinda sweet and sad, I really like the ink look of it, should promise for a beautifully illustrated piece of artwork ^^
"We were strangers, starting out on a journey. Never dreaming, what we'd have to go through. But here we are, and I'm suddenly standing, at the beginning with you..."
And I just had to come back to start from the beginning. Oh all the feels, the feels!
